1. Governing Body of the District Unit:

The Ex-officio Chairman of the NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur is the Deputy Commissioner, Gurdaspur. However, for the smooth running of the Sabha the Governing Body is duly constituted with the following Non Officials :-

2. Objectives of NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur:

# To work for the welfare and promotion of the interest of the NRIs, in general, and NRIs of the District Gurdaspur, in particular, without any discrimination on the grounds of caste, creed, religion.

# To work for the social welfare and economic development of Gurdaspur District with the participation of NRIs.

# To work for the promotion of cultural and ethnic bonds of Punjabi NRIs, especially of the new generations.

# To work as a forum of NRIs of Gurdaspur District and India.

# To create, promote or affiliate societies, trusts or companies and to acquire assets raise loans and obtain donation and grant for the activities pursuant to the above objectives.

# To act as an agency of the District for promoting of the welfare of NRIs of Gurdaspur District.

# To act as a trustee of the properties of the NRIs of Gurdaspur District who wish to entrust their properties to the Sabha for such trusteeship

# To take special care of the NRIs who are members of the NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur.

The NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur, is committed to redress the grievance of the NRIs and their Nominees.

3. Achievements of NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur:

$ So far, the NRI Sabha, Gurdaspur, has redressed the complaints of 62 NRIs, including their nominees, to their satisfaction.

$ The NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur, has donated one colour TV, two Durries and Aqua Guard Water Purifier, to Red Cross Drug De-addiction Treatment-cum-Rehabilitation Centre, Gurdaspur, for the benefit of the clients admitted in the Centre.

$ The NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur, organized a Drug De-addiction Seminar / Free Medical Camp at village Deeda Sainian, which was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police, Gurdaspur.

$ Similarly NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur, has donated Rupees Ten Thousands to Shri Sukhpal Singh for the participation in the International Competition of Karate-do-2006, as financial help.

$ Air Conditioned Mortuary with the facility to preserve dead bodies has been established at Civil Hospital Gurdaspur with the cost of Rs.5 lacs after collecting the donations from NRIs settled abroad. Previously this facility was not available in the district and the dead bodies were preserved far away from this palce.

$ A big size water cooler has been provided to the Red Cross Drug De-addiction Treatment cum Rehabilitation Centre Gurdaspur for the use of inmates of this centre. More than 60 addicts along with their accomplices are being benefitted by this facility.

The NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur, proposes to construct the Office for the NRI Sabha, as well as the Guest House for the visiting NRI dignitaries.

For the fulfillment of the above-proposed projects, this sabha appeals to the NRIs settled abroad, to donate liberally. They may send their donations through crossed cheques / bank drafts in the name of President, NRI Sabha, District Unit, Gurdaspur.

Procedure & Eligibilty for membership of the NRI Sabha, District Branch, Gurdaspur.

All NRIs belonging to District Gurdaspur are eligible to become members of NRI Sabha Gurdaspur by depositing Rs.5000/- + Rs.500 with the Sabha. They can appoint one member of their family as his/her nominee. The membership forms are available with the General Secretary of the Sabha. Three passport size photographs of the NRI, two photos of nominee and proof of being NRI i.e. Passport of Foreign ID are required.
